Pediatric Surgery in India Gives 3 Years Old Baby Awiti from Kenya Her Life Back

Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable spirit to survive. While you are born right into this world with the chances stacked in against you, you have two ways of searching at it: you may both allow it eat you or face it head-on.

Baby Awiti’s heart pediatric surgery in India story is one of divine strength that compelled her father Gakere Otieno to travel to India for the heart treatment of his baby daughter. This is their story.

Baby Awiti’s heart pediatric surgery in India story

Baby Awiti was born with a Ventricular Septal Defect or VSD, a congenital birth defect that causes a sizable hole in the lower chambers of a baby’s heart. In baby Awiti’s case, her heart had three holes, and to make matters worse she was diagnosed with Down syndrome.

While pregnant, both Awiti’s parents and their gynecologist anticipated minor issues with Awiti’s heart after spotting a small abnormality during a check-up. “He went for ECHO scans and they found a large VSD, a small ASD and a leak on her heart valve,” said Otieno.

As baby Awiti grew, her VSD was monitored closely, but it was apparent that something was not right and she needed to undergo pediatric surgery in India.

“At 2 years, the Kenya medical doctors cautioned us to move in for an open heart surgical treatment,” Otieno stated, “we truly weren’t certain if child Awiti would have a normal life or life at all.”

It quickly became evident that Awiti would need heart surgery to repair the hole and her heart’s rhythm. “We wanted the best treatment for my daughter and weren’t worried about the costs”, said Otieno, “we got in touch with Tour2india4health Consultant to help us find the best treatment.”

At this point, Awiti’s diagnosis was an extremely high risk, and she would need immediate specialized care. Their case manager came through for them by providing the family with the right treatment options for baby Awiti at the ideal time. After a quick deliberation, Otieno decided to get baby Awiti treated at one of the best pediatric surgeons in India; a decision that may have potentially given Awiti the best chance at life.

They gave me all of the hope I needed.” fortuitously, infant Awiti was into in the excellent hands of best pediatric surgeons in India. They might see to it that infant Awiti received the best medical intervention possible being determined to see her through. The words “open coronary heart surgical procedure” made us nervous, particularly the parents of small affected person.

On the day of the pediatric surgery in India, Otieno hoped for the best and prepared for the worst. “It wasn’t that at all. We had been so well received at the hospital and all the staff was kind and gentle with us. Just before the operation, best pediatric surgeons in India came to me and assured me that everything was going to be alright.”

Awiti was discharged after only six days, almost a day earlier than planned. Over the course of the next month, Awiti’s heart was closely monitored, all along being carefully rehabilitated under the observation of best pediatric surgeons in India - one of the top pediatric cardiologists in India.

The Otieno's finally returned to Kenya and just a week after being home, baby Awiti was already seeing considerable signs to improvement. “I will now not overlook this experience, it has most surely changed my life for the better” stated Otieno.
